Embracing Growth: The Summit at Chenal Valley’s 2024 Word of the Year

At the beginning of each year, Michael Buckley, Arrow’s personal and professional development coach and “The Chief Feelings Officer,” asks each team member to pick a “Word of the Year.”

To help individuals come up with a word, he offers questions like:

What does your life need more of right now?

And my life will be improved if I have more of what?

Michael reminds us that sometimes, we need more focus. Then, other times, it’s more compassion, and at times, we need more fun! In past years, team members have chosen words such as clarity, confidence, intentional, commitment, consideration, and receptiveness.

This year, team members are actively selecting a Word of the Year for themselves and collaborating to create a word for their community. Picking a personal word and community word is a commitment to doing work on themselves and the “we” and “us” work they want to accomplish as a community.

As The Summit thrives, so do the lives of our cherished residents. Who discover new avenues for personal enrichment, camaraderie, and purpose. Our community exemplifies the natural development of a supportive environment that encourages every resident to evolve, learn, and enjoy the richness of their golden years.

By setting an intention for the year, we’re shaping our community for success. We create an environment where residents thrive collectively by curating programs that encourage personal development, learning, and engagement. This intentional focus on community growth encourages meaningful connections, shared experiences, and a vibrant atmosphere where every resident contributes to and benefits from the flourishing community. Just as our commitment to staff development ensures a supportive and innovative workplace. Our dedication to resident growth solidifies The Summit at Chenal Valley as a dynamic and interconnected senior living community.

We will incorporate the concept of growth into every facet of daily operations of our community life. We will cultivate a culture of continual improvement, embracing growth as a guiding principle for residents and staff. Daily events and programming will be curated to promote personal development, learning, and wellness. This fosters an environment where residents can thrive and find new avenues for growth. We will design staff training programs to focus on professional development and skill enhancement, creating a team that is competent and committed to its own growth.

Our community’s most significant goal of the year is opening our Memory Care Neighborhood.

This fills our hearts with immense joy and anticipation. This final project is not just a culmination of meticulous planning and design. It represents the fulfillment of a heartfelt commitment to providing exceptional care and unwavering love to our new Memory Care Residents. Welcoming them is not just a moment; it marks the beginning of a journey. We dedicate ourselves to enhancing their quality of life and creating meaningful connections.

The chosen Word of the Year should inspire the team. If it doesn’t, it means they selected the wrong word. Hold yourself and others accountable throughout the year.
