Blending Passion, Leadership, and Heart

As Culinary Director at The Summit Senior Living at Chenal Valley, I approach each day with passion, not just purpose. I face new challenges, hear new stories, and find fresh reasons to feel grateful. I’m excited to share how I arrived in this role, what fuels my dedication, and what a typical day looks like in our community. My work goes beyond preparing meals—it focuses on building connections, creating purpose, and making a real difference where it counts.

I’ve always had a passion for cooking and a natural ability to lead. With more than a decade of professional leadership experience—and a lifelong connection to older adults—I often heard I had an “old soul.” Becoming a culinary director in senior living brought together the things I care about most. It truly felt like a dream come true.

My experience as a Director of Operations best prepared me for this role. I led more than 100 employees across seven outlets and learned the value of consistency. That role also taught me how to create systems that encourage proactive solutions and long-term success.

Food as a Gateway to Joy and Connection

What I love most about senior living is the chance to spark cherished memories through food. Many residents no longer control many aspects of their lives. However, they can still decide what they want to eat. Delivering joy and autonomy through a well-loved meal is incredibly rewarding.

Each morning, I walk through the dining rooms and personally greet every resident. I always ask, “What can I do today to make it better than yesterday?” These conversations help me adjust the menu or add a thoughtful touch, ensuring each day begins with care and intention.

For those considering a culinary career in senior living, I offer simple advice: lead with a big heart and plenty of patience. The impact you’ll make here is unlike anything you’ll find elsewhere in the culinary world.

To me, success looks like happy residents and a team that works as one. When our residents enjoy their meals and the staff feels motivated, I know I’m doing something right.

At day’s end, I take the greatest pride in knowing I’ve contributed something meaningful—whether it’s a favorite dish, a heartfelt conversation, or a comforting moment. Thank you for welcoming me into your community and allowing me to serve at your table. I’m truly honored.
