As spring arrives, our team turns its attention to one of the most visible parts of our community: landscaping. Beautiful grounds do not happen by chance. They come from thoughtful planning, seasonal preparation, and steady attention to detail.
After winter, I take a proactive approach to refreshing our outdoor spaces. My goal is to keep them visually appealing, safe, and enjoyable for residents. As the Plant Operations Director at The Summit Senior Living at Chenal Valley, I focus on the steps that help our community look its best each spring.

For the spring refresh, the Executive Director and I complete an initial walkthrough of the outdoor grounds with our landscaper. During this walkthrough, we identify areas that need attention. We also create a clear list for follow-up.
A recent seasonal project involved refreshing the front entrance flowerpots for spring. Residents have shared many compliments about the updated look.
I use the TELS checklist to track issues and concerns. I also keep a written log in my carry-around notepad. This helps me document items and follow up until the team addresses them.
One common spring startup issue is broken sprinkler heads. Properly shutting down the irrigation system before winter can help prevent these problems. It also makes spring startup smoother when the team restarts the system.
Next season, I plan to focus on improving the grass on the hillside in front of Assisted Living. I also plan to replace dead trees as we find them.
It is easy to see the finished product, but real success comes from teamwork. Coordination, accountability, and pride help bring each project together. These efforts ensure The Summit Senior Living at Chenal Valley continues to meet the standards residents expect while setting the tone for the months ahead.
